Women building better communities. That's the Junior League. They are all women. Many are businesswomen. Several of them are teachers. Some are attorneys and doctors. Others are mothers. They log several thousand volunteer hours per year. They collaborate with community leaders to implement programs and activities that will benefit the welfare of children in the Athens-Clarke County community. They are the women of Junior League of Athens, one of the oldest community service organizations in the Athens area. Mission The JLA is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. The Junior League of Athens is dedicated to empowering children and to guiding their journey into a productive life using the diverse talents of passionate, trained volunteers. The purpose of the organization is exclusively educational and charitable. The JLA represents a wide range of talents and diverse backgrounds. The organization reaches out to women of all races, religions and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism.
