Janey M. Cooley Volunteer of the Year Award
About the Award
The award is named in memory of Janey Cooley (1935-2015) who was an active member of the Athens community throughout her life. Ms. Cooley, known for her confidence, resilience and sense of humor, was one of the first women in Athens’ business community. Admired for her candor and frankness, she was passionate about her community. As a servant leader, she was involved in many community organizations including the Junior League of Athens, Athens Regional Medical Center now Piedmont Regional Medical Center, the United Way of Northeast Georgia as well as a Sunday school teacher.
The Janey Cooley Volunteer of the Year Award seeks to recognize and inspire volunteer service in our community through the contributions of time, talents, and service to provide a positive impact in the Athens area. This award honors outstanding work within the community in the preceding year.
